Fiat Lux by Wade Stevenson

$16.00

"Creation--all of it, and each atom of it--is, as Wade Stevenson avers, an "action of time," with an allure that is also a lure to Actual Presence. In Fiat Lux, poetry limns the body of this presence without irony and without ambiguity. Here there is light beyond the shadow's reach." —Donald Revell

Wade Stevenson's Fiat Lux, illustrated beautifully by Geoffrey Gatza, is a philosophical meditation on love. Unfolding like a night spent with a lover, the book considers the question of "[h]ow to know the true meaning of Amor." This question is carefully considered from all angles, through glittering lenses of light and darkness. "The best thing you could do / Would be to die / But you don’t have the courage / To let your love become self-effacing," the book confesses. Instead, Stevenson suggests, we ought to embrace the ways that love is fully embodied by the self—which, ultimately, is what makes our poetry possible.  —Wendy Chen, author of “Their Divine Fires”

I admire Wade Stevenson’s FIAT LUX for its clarity and immediacy. These poems cut right to the core. They’re about nothing less than what it means to be alive, and they pulse with their own determined liveliness, “the ecstasy of being able to live again.” Taking account of mortality and freedom—and committing to love as to necessity—FIAT LUX contains and releases an extraordinary lyric power. —Peter Campion, author of One Summer Evening at the Falls
